INFANTS (0 - 5 yrs old) and YOUNG ADULTS - Watch the Video Below!
1. You must arrange for an interview with a parish priest/deacon at least one month before the desired date of Baptism. Call the rectory at 718-293-2766.
2. Please bring a copy of the birth certificate to the interview.
3. Only parents or legal guardians may register the child for Baptism.
4. Children must be 5 years or younger at time of Baptism. Children 6 and over will be recommended for Sacred Heart’s Religious Education Program.
5. If you do not live within the parish boundaries, you must get a letter from your local Catholic parish granting permission to have your child baptized at Sacred Heart or Saint Francis.
6. God-parents must be baptized Catholics, who attend mass regularly, and are in good standing with the Catholic Church.
7. Parents and God-parents are required to attend a one hour class prior to the baptism, unless they have attended the infant baptismal preparation course in the past 18 months.
8. The baptismal class is for adults. Children are not permitted to attend.
9. For those who like suggestions, a lovely gift to the parish on the occasion of your child’s baptism is no less than $50. An envelope will be provided for you. Please turn this in directly to the deacon or priest at the time of baptism. Thank you in advance for your donation.
10. Please notify the rectory if you must postpone or cancel the date you have scheduled for Baptism.
CHILDREN (At least 6 yrs old) and YOUNG ADULTS
Parents of children 6 years and older are asked to enroll in our Religious Education program. Classes take place September through June, on Sundays from 10:30am - 11:45am. For registration, please contact the parish Director of Religious Education, Vera Galeas during the hours below at 718-293-2766, ext 103:
Tuesdays: 10am - 5pm
Thursdays: 10 am - 5pm
Sundays: 9am - 1pm
ADULTS (18 and older)
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is for those who are either:
- unbaptized adults who want to become Catholic OR
- baptized adult who want to convert to Catholicism OR
- baptized adult Catholics who want to complete their sacraments.
Please contact our RCIA Coordinator, Ms. Ada Correa in the rectory for more information and to register in advance or click here. Classes are held September through June, on Tuesdays from 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm.
